The Almedalen week on the island of Gotland in the Baltic Sea is a large, yearly summer event where Swedish politicians, companies and organizations meet to discuss the development of society. For Skanska it is a valuable opportunity to meet decision makers, build relationships and have open discussions on common issues.

This political event has grown significantly the last 10 years; this year reaching over 30,000 visitors and 3,000 events. Every important politician is expected to be there, local ones and governmental ones, including the Prime Minister.

Skanska in Sweden is very active in Almedalen, hosting 10 seminars, participating as speakers in some 50 panels. The main topics that Skanska tries to bring forward this year is "Put higher demands on the construction industry" and "Include social aspects in public procurement". Other themes include how to improve infrastructure through alternative financial solutions such as PPP and how Sweden could pace up the building of homes.
