Slater & Gordon : and Gordon lawyer wins national legal award

Slater and Gordon's Melinda Griffiths has won the Regional/Suburban Lawyer of the Year prize at the Lawyers Weekly Australian Law Awards 2017.

The Wollongong Principle Lawyer was one of seven Slater and Gordon lawyers nominated for an award at a ceremony held in Sydney on Friday 1 September.

Ms Griffiths specialises in motor vehicle accident and public liability claims and also has extensive experience working in historic childhood sexual abuse matters

She said while it was a complete shock to hear her name announced at the ceremony, it was a wonderful testament to the hard work put in by her team.

'It was just amazing, words couldn't describe the feeling when they called my name - it was very special and an honour to win,' Ms Griffiths said. 'The past 12 months have been extremely rewarding for me and my team and I definitely wouldn't have achieved this honour without their hard work.

'I have worked in the Wollongong and Illawarra region for more than 20 years so I'm extremely passionate about this community and its people.'

Slater and Gordon lawyers Martin Rogalski (Queensland), Rebekah Lovely (Queensland) and Heather McKinnon (NSW) were also nominated for the same award.

Marko Eric (Victoria) was nominated for the Senior Associate of the Year prize while Serina Dowding (Victoria) and Rebecca Lanza (Victoria) were both nominated for the Legal Support Professional of the Year award.

Slater and Gordon Chief Executive Officer Hayden Stephens congratulated Ms Griffiths on the honour, highlighting her commitment and passion for supporting her clients.

Mr Stephens said Ms Griffiths was a leader in her field and was more than deserving of the award, which represented the hard work and expertise she brought to her role every day.

Mr Stephens also congratulated the other six nominees, paying tribute to their dedication and hard work over the past 12 months.

In March this year, Ms Griffiths was elected President of the Wollongong and District Law Society and had served in various roles within the group for the previous five years. She was also nominated for the same Lawyers Weekly Australian Law Award last year.
