Employees from Sallie Mae, the nation’s saving, planning, and paying for college company, educator-turned-hip-hop-artist Dee-1, and the local community will lace up for the second annual Sallie Mae 5K run on Sunday, June 3, at 8:30 a.m. The Sallie Mae 5K — an employee-driven fundraiser in support of the company’s Bridging the Dream Scholarship Program — is open to the public and will be held at Fort Harrison State Park in Indianapolis. Participants can register at www.SallieMae5K.com.

This year’s 5k will honor the late Charlie Rocha, former Sallie Mae chief marketing officer and champion of the Bridging the Dream Scholarship Program. Sallie Mae leadership will make a special scholarship announcement prior to the race.

Sallie Mae’s Bridging the Dream Scholarship program asks high school counselors from across the country to nominate students who have overcome obstacles and exemplify excellence both inside and outside the classroom. Counselors and community organization leaders can nominate students beginning Aug. 23. In the past two years, Sallie Mae has awarded more than $300,000 in scholarships to undergraduate and graduate students through the Bridging the Dream Scholarship program.
