In 2012, SNS Bank and RegioBank welcomed over 27,000 Zilvervloot Sparen (youth savings account) savers. Compared to the number of residents, the province of Overijssel relatively has the highest number of Zilvervloot savers. SNS Bank and RegioBank want to encourage frugality among young people through Zilvervloot Sparen.

After Gelderland, the highest number of accounts was taken out in the provinces of Zuid-Holland and Noord-Holland. Age group 0 - 12 months has the highest savings balances, followed by eight and nine year olds. On average, boys save four euros more than girls. Board member Rob Langezaal: 'SNS Bank and RegioBank want to contribute to the development of frugality among young people. I am delighted that we have already welcomed over 27,000 Zilvervloot savers who, by saving money, are taking steps towards a healthy financial future.'

Most attractive children's savings account

In early September, SNS Bank and RegioBank reintroduced the Zilvervloot Sparen savings account. SNS Bank and RegioBank want to encourage savings by means of the Zilvervloot savings account as was customary with the popular 'old' Zilvervloot Savings account between 1958 and 1992. Earlier this year political parties CDA and ChristenUnie submitted a bill to reintroduce this youth savings product with a government bonus. Board member Rob Langezaal: 'in 2013 again, SNS Bank will continue to support Zilvervloot Sparen and youth savings in general.' An analysis by the Consumers' Association shows that Zilvervloot Sparen is currently the most attractive youth savings account on offer.
