Software AG (Frankfurt TecDAX: SOW) today announced that Dr. John Bates, Chief Marketing Officer and member of the Software AG Executive Board, is recognized by Institutional Investor for the fourth consecutive year in their Tech 50 list. The publication’s Tech 50 is a prestigious list comprising financial services industry leaders at the forefront of financial technology innovation.

A recognized visionary and entrepreneur in the software industry, Dr. Bates is known throughout the industry as a source of innovative thinking. In particular, he is recognized as one of the foremost experts and driving forces behind the emergence of Complex Event Processing (CEP) and a pioneer of the commercial use of event processing in business solutions. At the core of the Intelligent Business Operations portfolio, Software AG’s Apama solution enables businesses to analyze and act on high-volume business operations and customer interactions in real-time.

Institutional Investor’s editors and staff, with nominations and input from industry participants and experts also contributing to the evaluation, compiled the “Tech 50” ranking. According to the publication, four primary sets of attributes are evaluated: achievements and contributions over the course of a career; scope and complexity of responsibilities; influence and leadership inside and outside the organization; and pure technological innovation.

Karl-Heinz Streibich, CEO, Software AG noted: “John is a great player in our team. His expertise and leadership makes a huge competitive differentiation when working with our customers across industries. As the inventor of the Apama streaming analytics platform, John’s vision and innovation has enabled leading financial institutions to monitor, rapidly detect patterns and make decisions in milliseconds across fast-moving and large volumes of data, and this has fundamentally changed the way they do business.”

Dr. John Bates has been recognized over the years for many achievements, including being named one of the “Ten innovators of the decade” by Wall Street and Technology Magazine in 2011. Software AG’s Apama has also been recognized by multiple groups for its product superiority in streaming analytics and intelligent automated action on fast-moving big data, including Waters magazine and The Trade100’s ‘most innovative of the decade’ award.

John Bates was appointed CTO for Intelligent Business Operations and Big Data, and a member of the Software AG Group Executive Board, in October 2013. In June 2014 he took over global responsibility as Chief Marketing Officer at Software AG.
