We at SolarCity like to stay on top of current fads, trends and crazes-especially those enjoyed by our customers.
So, of course, we remember #planking. With planking, people across the Web posted pictures of themselves lying flat, arms to the sides, stiff as a board, in awkward places.
Then there was #owling. Devotees posted pictures of themselves perched upon unusual objects. And who's never indulged in posting online a narcissistic #selfie or two … or twenty … or 2,600?
Now, solar customers themselves have charged up the latest craze sweeping the Internet: solar paneling.
Solar paneling is when a group of friends, family members or coworkers take a picture of themselves imitating a bank of solar panels on the roof of a home or business, as a solar carport or ground mount system, etc.
"Panelists" (what people who engage in solar paneling prefer to be called) post the pictures to their social media pages with the hashtag #solarpaneling.
We've rounded up a few examples of paneling at its finest:
Here are some lovely ground mount solar panel systems:
How about a solar-powered electric vehicle charging station?
Or this solar-powered cellphone charger?
Customers weren't the only ones solar paneling. Solar companies joined the craze, paneling in training facilities across the country:
