OPTIMUS LAUNCHES CAMPAIGN WITH THE GIL FOUNDATION
FOR EVERY OWN BRAND OPTIMUS TELEPHONE SOLD, 1 € WILL BE DONATED TO THE FOUNDATION
Optimus has launched a campaign to support the
Gil Foundation, in which, for every own brand phone or
smartphone sold, one euro will be donated to the charity. It
covers the whole range of own brand devices that are
currently on offer in the operator's sale, and does not
involve any price change for the customer.
The campaign will run until the 31st of January and its main
goal is to contribute financially towards the
The Mobile Home Support Units (MHSUs) of the Gil Foundation
provide support to chronically ill children with kidney,
lung, and digestive system disorders or illnesses relating to
new born infants, being treated by the Santa Maria, Dona
Estefânia, Fernando Fonseca and São João Hospitals. Every
day, three vehicles, specially equipped as medical practices
for these illnesses, travel out from the hospitals mentioned
with a team made up of a doctor/nurse, social assistant and
other staff that the hospital considers to be important for
the care of these children in their homes.
According to Isabel Borgas, Optimus' Sustainability and
Institutional Communications Manager, "the campaign that we
are launching with the Gil Foundation, which has done such
outstanding work supporting and protecting children and young
people, reflects our positioning in relation to the use of
communication and information technologies to improve the
lives of these sections of the population. It is an excellent
example of how companies can add value to the community
through their business activities".
The campaign continues the close cooperation that has taken
place between Optimus and the Gil Foundation
since 2010. A protocol was signed at that time between the
two organisations, the goal of which is to promote the social
inclusion of children and fight against their isolation by
providing latest generation laptop computers with free
Kanguru mobile Internet and communications. In fact, this
equipment is used in the day to day home support work of the
MHSUs.
A highlight among the new Optimus own brand
mobile and smartphones in the campaign is the biggest selling
Android smartphone in Portugal, the Optimus Boston, as well
as the brand's most recent product launches: the Optimus
Stockholm and the Optimus Monte Carlo, featuring an
incredible 4.3 inch screen.
The Gil Foundation is a charity recognised as an Institution
of Public Utility in Portugal that has been in existence for
twelve years. Its goal is to promote the social reintegration
of children and young people who have been hospitalised for
extended periods of time. To this end, it works on three
anchor projects in Portugal:
• The "Casa do Gil": the only temporary reception centre with
post hospital treatment in Portugal.
• The MHSUs: Mobile Home Support Units which provide clinical
and social services to those suffering from chronic
illnesses, thus avoiding the need for prolonged stays in
hospital.
• The "Dia do Gil" (Gil Day): through the "Story Hour", the
"Music Hour" and the "Discovery Hour", this project's team
brings an emotional stimulus to children every day in 28
Portuguese paediatric centres.
