Sopra Steria has been identified as a global leader in the corporate response to climate change and has been awarded a performance score of A by CDP, a not-for-profit charity that runs the global disclosure system for investors, companies, cities, states and regions to manage their environmental impacts. Sopra Steria is among the top 5% of companies participating in CDP's climate change programme and is featured on the 2017 Climate A List. This is in recognition of its actions and its strategy to cut emissions, mitigate climate risks and support a transition to a low-carbon economy.

Sopra Steria's ambitious emissions reduction targets have been officially approved in June 2017 by the Science Based Targets initiative. Its long-term vision is to reduce its GHG emissions per employee by 76% by 2040 from a 2015 base-year.

Innovating in support of the environment, Sopra Steria is engaged in a Group-wide programme with initiatives such as:

  • increasing its use of renewable energy for energy consumption for its offices and data-centres (already 69% of the electricity that the Group used in its offices and on-site data centres around the world in 2016 came from renewable sources),
  • setting an internal price on carbon,
  • launching New Mobilities project to streamline business travel and employee commuting,
  • offsetting greenhouse gas emissions by purchasing carbon offsets that fund renewable energy projects,
  • developing a sustainable purchasing policy and engaging with its supply chain,
  • committing to the right to water and supporting solar power initiatives in the community.

'A strong and committed network of people across our company implements our environmental responsibility policy with a conviction that we can make a difference in addressing climate change,' states Vincent Paris, Sopra Steria CEO. 'I am really pleased to see that our pioneering work is yielding results in the move to a low-carbon economy. It also gives us opportunities to strengthen our links with our stakeholders,' he adds.

CDP's Executive Chair Paul Dickinson said: 'Congratulations to all the companies that made it onto the Climate A List this year. It's inspiring to see so many taking bold action to mitigate the risks of climate change and grasp the opportunities that come with the transition to a sustainable economy. As we approach a tipping point on environmental action, business is absolutely central to making that transition happen'.
