Volunteers set to clean Lake Demopolis Sept. 29-30

What: The Renew Our Rivers Lake Demopolis cleanup is Friday and Saturday, Sept. 29-30. Volunteers coming to Saturday's community cleanup should report at 7 a.m. to the Demopolis City Landing. The cleanup ends at noon, followed by a picnic lunch.

Overview: Volunteers for Renew Our Rivers, one of the Southeast's largest river cleanup campaigns, have collected more than 14 million pounds of trash and debris since the program's inception in 2000. This year, 31 cleanups are planned through November on the Alabama, Black Warrior, Cahaba, Chattahoochee, Coosa, Mobile and Tallapoosa rivers.

Directions: From Tuscaloosa: Travel west on Interstate 20/59. Take exit 45 toward Union. Take Highway 43 south to Demopolis. The Demopolis City Landing will be on the right as you enter the city limits.
