Southwest Airlines has restarted service in some cities impacted by the winter storm, and we plan to resume full service in all cities by Wednesdayafternoon. As we implement our operational plans, our primary goal is the safety of our customers and employees. The following operational plan is subject to change based on conditions at the airport, availability of in infrastructure (road conditions/closures, operation of public transportation, etc.) all of which impact Southwest's ability to operate safely.

Operational plan for Wednesday, March 15:

  • BWI and the D.C metro airports are slated to begin service on Wednesdaymorning.
  • NYC metro, and all other impacted airports in the northeast, are slated to begin service Wednesdayafternoon.

As of 6:30 PM CDTtoday, Southwest Airlines has proactively canceled due to weather more than 1,500 flights systemwide Mondaythrough Wednesday. Flexible Customer accommodation policies are still in place on our website at this link.

City-specific cancelation numbers can be calculated by visiting the websites of the individual airports. We have city fact sheets that provide general information about our destinations served, number of daily flights, facilities, and employment numbers.
