HOUSTON, May 3, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Spectra Energy Corp (NYSE: SE) today announced ten children of company employees have been selected to receive up to $5,000 per year in scholarship funds toward undergraduate study at an accredited college or university in the United States or Canada.

This year's scholarship recipients possess a powerful mix of academic excellence, community commitment and drive that will propel them to great heights. We are honored to invest in their future."

As part of the Spectra Energy Scholars Program, scholarship recipients are chosen annually by an independent committee of judges and must be graduating high school/secondary school seniors. The committee selects applicants based on their performance in academics, leadership and participation in school and community activities, honors and awards, work experience and financial need. The scholarships will provide the students up to $20,000 during their four years of undergraduate study.

Two additional students were recognized for their achievements and will each receive a one-time, $2,500 scholarship.
