NEW YORK, May 15, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Investor Uprising, the individual investor's no-nonsense resource for global business trends and investment ideas, has published a column by Noreen Seebacher that questions whether Spirit Airlines (Nasdaq: SAVE) can continue to be the most profitable US carrier while frustrating its passengers with fees.

Seebacher, describing Spirit as "a bus with wings," wrote in an opinion piece that she feels deceived by the airline's boast of low prices, since it tacks on extra charges for everything from boarding passes to cups of water during the flight. Just this month, Spirit announced it was boosting the top carry-on luggage fee to $100, effective in November.

But Spirit shares have soared more than 95% since the company went public late last May, and it earned more per plane last year than any other carrier. Seebacher wonders how the airline can be so successful when it is "uncomfortable, unfriendly, and over regimented, with a fleet likely held together with paper clips, duct tape, and dirt."
