ST Aerospace Expands Presence at Seletar Aerospace Park
New additions include a purpose-built General Aviation aircraft
hangar, simulator centre for pilot training, centre for
aviation technical training and VIP facility for air charter
customers
Singapore, 21 February 2012 - ST Aerospace today broke ground
to expand her presence at Singapore's Seletar Aerospace
Park (SAP). New additions include a purpose-built General
Aviation (GA) aircraft hangar, simulator centre for pilot
training, facilities for aviation technical training and a VIP
facility for air charter customers. Costing an estimated
$26m, the facilities are expected to be ready by the end of
2012. The investment value does not include the costs of
fixed based training equipment and simulators that would
eventually be sited at the facilities.
With a floor area of 3,960 sqm, the new GA hangar will double
ST Aerospace's current capacity to service business jets,
helicopters and light aircraft. In total, ST Aerospace
will be able to handle up to 24 GA aircraft and 11 narrow-body
aircraft at any one time at its SAP facility.
The new GA hangar will hence serve to strengthen ST
Aerospace's maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) support
for GA aircraft. The company's track record for GA
aircraft dates back 1975. It now supports a diverse range of GA
aircraft, including business jets, helicopters and light
aircraft. Besides serving third-party commercial
customers, the new hangar will also support
ST Aerospace's growing fleet of air charter aircraft, which
includes two Bombardier Learjets, two Beechcraft King Air C90,
one Eurocopter EC120 and one Gulfstream G550 aircraft.
With quality finishing and furnishings, the new GA hangar
will also enhance the overall experience for VIP customers.
Apart from the new GA hangar, ST Aerospace has also leased a
23,100 sqm plot of land opposite its current site, which will
be further developed to house a full suite of training and
support facilities for its fast-growing commercial pilot and
technical training businesses. The new facilities include
a simulator centre that can house six full flight simulators
and one full size fixed base simulator, as well as
state-of-the-art computer-based training wired-up rooms for
both Air Transport Pilot Licence and entry level ground
training. Besides anticipating for growth, the suite of
training facilities is also custom designed for the newly
legislated Singapore Multi-crew Pilot Licence programme.
The first Airbus A320 simulator will be ready for roll-in by
the end of 2012.
Additionally, the new site will house a VIP lounge for ST
Aerospace's air charter customers, training facilities for
aviation technical training and an administration building for
its MRO management and support staff. Construction at
this site will start in March 2012 and is expected to be
completed by the end of 2012.
With the new additions, ST Aerospace will have the second
largest footprint in SAP, taking up a total space of nearly
75,000 sqm. Its staff strength at SAP will be more than
1,000.
"ST Aerospace has a long and rich history in Seletar that
dates back 1975. Over the years, our Seletar base has
expanded beyond just providing aircraft MRO services to also
include air charter and pilot training. This capacity
expansion will strengthen our global capacity to better support
our customers in the various areas of our core business."
