The UK's leading regeneration specialist, St. Modwen, has sold five acres of land at the former Goodyear site on Stafford Road, Wolverhampton, to major housebuilder Barratt Homes.

The site already has outline planning consent and Barratt Homes have now submitted detailed plans for 93 homes, including nine affordable homes, with construction expected to start in Spring 2017.

Nick Whittingham, Land Director at St. Modwen, said: 'This further sale to Barratt Homes reinforces the popularity of the former Goodyear site, with Persimmon Homes and Barratt Homes already on site selling a mix of 2, 3 and 4 bedroom houses and apartments.

'The site is in an ideal location in terms of its proximity to Wolverhampton city centre, the railway station and the motorway network and will go some way in answering the growing need for high-quality new homes in the area.'

The sale to Barratt Homes follows a number of residential land sales across the region for St. Modwen, including the recent sale of seven acres of land to Taylor Wimpey for 95 new homes at the developer's £1 billion Longbridge regeneration scheme.

£150m has already been invested in the ongoing regeneration of the Goodyear site, which is located on Stafford Road, Wolverhampton; three miles from the city centre. The development benefits from a 17,000 sq ft Aldi supermarket and a Greene King 'Hungry Horse' family pub restaurant, which together have created 70 jobs. New retail facilities and a 17.5 acre neighbourhood park are also being delivered, expected for completion in 2017.

St. Modwen has been transforming the 88 acre former Goodyear site since 2009 and in addition to the retail and leisure facilities, has developed 328 new homes through a Joint Venture with Persimmon, whilst Barratt Homes is delivering a further 124 homes. Once complete, the scheme will deliver around 40 acres of new homes.
