State Auto Financial Corporation (NASDAQ:STFC) is saddened to announce its former Chairman, President and CEO Robert H. (Bob) Moone died on Friday, Dec. 25, 2015. He was 72 years old.

"I was blessed to have gotten to know Bob in recent months," said State Auto Financial President and CEO Mike LaRocco. His commitment and contributions to State Auto will never be forgotten. We extend our deepest sympathy to his wife, Anna, and children, Christine and Craig, and their families."

Moone joined State Auto in 1970 in the commercial underwriting department, four years after receiving a bachelor's degree in psychology from The Ohio State University. After serving in leadership roles in commercial lines, sales and marketing, Moone became executive vice president of insurance operations in 1993. He was elected president and chief operating officer in 1996, named CEO in 1999 and was elected chairman in 2001. Moone retired in 2006.

In addition to his service on the boards of the Insurance Education Foundation, the Griffith Foundation and the Property Casualty Insurers Association of America (PCI), Moone also served on a number of non-profit community boards including the Salvation Army and the Friends of WOSU.
