2015 Awards to Introduce Two New Categories:

  • Regulation Category to Recognise Journalism's Role in Shaping the Regulatory Agenda
  • Financial Literacy Category to Recognise Efforts in Explaining New or Complex Financial Terms or Instruments

The State Street 2015 Institutional Press Awards Asia Pacific opened for entries today. The awards recognise outstanding performance in institutional financial services reporting across publications in the Asia Pacific region.

Now in its fourth year in the region and 14th year globally, the 2015 Awards will honour the contribution of journalists covering pensions, investment, alternatives and investor services and technology issues over the past 12 months. This year two new categories will also be introduced: a regulation category to highlight the contribution of institutional journalism in the fast evolving financial regulatory landscape in Asia Pacific, and a Financial Literacy category to recognise efforts by the media in educating institutional investors on new or complex financial terms, instruments or issues.

The awards are open to journalists, including freelancers, from online, wire, trade, and major daily newspaper and magazine publications that are based in the Asia Pacific region or have an Asia Pacific bureau.

An independent judging panel of six respected figures from the investment, financial services and journalism industries will choose the winner in each category. The awards will be presented at a ceremony in Hong Kong in late November.

Tom Leander, the awards' lead judge, said, "The momentum that these awards has built up is frankly exciting as I feel they serve a very worthwhile goal in rewarding strong institutional journalism, which is why I'm particularly pleased to see the new category of Financial Literacy. Whether it's new types of investment, innovation in an aspect of an existing product class, issues and policies affecting the industry, the investment community relies heavily on the media to help them to understand and make better decisions, and so the quality of writing really matters."
