Stockholm, 3 March 2016 Züblin Scandinavia AB, a Swedish subsidiary of Ed. Züblin AG, has been awarded the contract by the Swedish transport authority Trafikverket to build a section of the Stockholm motorway bypass. The project comprises the construction of an approximately 950 m long section of motorway including interchange for a total of about € 76 million. The works being carried out by Züblin in the district of Akalla north of Stockholm include large sheeting and shoring measures for excavation works, an approximately 120 m long concrete tunnel built using cut-and-cover, an approximately 480 m long trough for the tunnel approach and a roundabout.
The Stockholm Bypass in the northwest of the Swedish capital is part of the E4 motorway and will have a total length of 21 km and six lanes. Completion of the entire project, with a total value of about
€ 3.1 billion, is scheduled for the year 2025. Work on the Akalla section is to be concluded in 2021. "We are proud that the motorway section being built by us will contribute to relieving the traffic burden in the capital", says Thomas Birtel, CEO of STRABAG SE.
