Sumitomo Chemical to Exit the DPF Business

Sumitomo Chemical today announced its decision to exit the diesel particulate filter (DPF) business and concurrently dissolve its DPF subsidiary, Sumika Ceramics Poland.

Sumitomo Chemical has been engaged in manufacturing and selling DPFs since September 2011 when Sumika Ceramics Poland was established. During the course of the business, the competitive environment surrounding the automotive industry underwent various changes and has made it prudent for the Company to conclude that securing a stable flow of profits from the business over the medium to long term would be difficult.

Despite the decision, Sumitomo Chemical will continue to expend every effort of investing its management resources particularly in those fields in which the Company can offer comparative advantages technologically, aiming always to achieve sustainable growth through creation of new value.
