SHKP Reading Club encourages young people to explore the world
Reading Stories from Afar invites applications

The SHKP Reading Club under Sun Hung Kai Properties (SHKP) is staging a series of Happy Reading Give Me FIVE activities to celebrate its 5th anniversary this year. Following the successful launch of an exclusive charity afternoon tea in early May, the Club is now inviting applications for the second activity, Reading Stories from Afar. Members of the public are invited to plan a trip with a creative reading-related itinerary and submit their proposal to the Club by 28 June 2018. Shortlisted applicants will have the chance to receive a sponsorship up to HK$10,000 for their proposed trip.

Many Hongkongers enjoy travel, in particular the younger generation who seek to broaden their horizons and enrich their knowledge through exploring different cultures and beautiful scenery during in-depth journeys. Committed to promoting happy reading in fun and motivating ways, the SHKP Reading Club presents Reading Stories from Afar in collaboration with GLO Travel, which is dedicated to promoting in-depth travel experiences, in order to encourage more youngsters to learn and explore the world by travelling and reading.

Applicants must be aged 18 or above at the time of application and hold a valid Hong Kong permanent identity card. They should submit a travel proposal which details the objectives, features, itinerary, the associations with reading, and overall budget of the trip. A judging panel will review the proposals based on a number of criteria including the theme, creativity and practicality of the proposed trip. The panel will then determine the actual amount of financial sponsorship according to the destinations and content of the travel plan. The six successful applicants will be required to share their experiences and feelings in the form of photos, videos and travel notes during and after their journeys.

SHKP has been promoting reading and holistic development for more than a decade. To this end, the Group set up the SHKP Reading Club in late 2013 to integrate all of its reading initiatives in the community, particularly for the benefit of primary and secondary school students, disadvantaged children and families. To date, over 200,000 people across the city have taken part in the Club's activities. Celebrating its 5th anniversary this coming December, the Club presents the Happy Reading Give Me FIVE celebration campaign with a series of reading initiatives being launched in phases from May onwards.
