SHKP Reading Club presents Read On, Move On this fall
Combining the fun of reading and exercise

Reading and exercise are good for physical and mental health. The SHKP Reading Club under Sun Hung Kai Properties has planned for a series of Read On, Move On sports and literature activities this fall as part of its efforts to promote reading. They will take participants beyond books with cycling and stairway cultural tours and author sharing, to encourage people to develop the habits of reading and exercise.

The first activity under Read On, Move On was a Kam Tin cycling tour in mid-September and next up will be How Yogis Read in mid-October. Yoga instructor Caren Lau will talk about her perspective on reading and writing and teach basic yoga to help participants relax. Then in late November, Read On, Move On will have Walk in Hong Kong founder Paul Chan leading a tour of special stairways in Central and Sheung Wan, and looking at the traditional craft of movable-type printing to take participants back to the days when printing companies were flourishing.

Dr Lau is a fitness enthusiast. She attained a PhD in medical sciences from the Chinese University of Hong Kong and began teaching yoga and writing, encouraging people to exercise more and maintain good health after leaving her role as a researcher. Travel buff Chan has visited over 80 countries. He worked in various academic, media and government positions before establishing Walk in Hong Kong four years ago, offering fun, informative tours of the city for people who are interested in exploring Hong Kong city. His books include Going Afar: A Journey around the World* and Thoughts on Hong Kong*.

The earlier Read On, Move On Kam Tin tour had participants cycling from Yuen Long to Shui Tau Tsuen and Shui Mei Tsuen, where they visited the Yi Tai Study Hall, Tang Tsing Lok Ancestral Hall, Chou Wong Yi Kung Study Hall, Tin Hau Temple and Kam Tin Tree House heritage sites. The tour also covered walled villages built by the Tang clan. Several books telling the history and culture of Yuen Long and Kam Tin including Yuen Long-Landscape-Custom*, Four Seasons of Yuen Long* and Kam Tin Tang Clan*, were introduced in the tour.

Everyone is welcome to join Read On, Move On for free. Interested parties please visit the Reading Club's Facebook page (www.facebook.com/shkpreadingclub) or website (www.shkpreadingclub.com) for details.
