SHKP committed to quality green living
Energy Saving Contest Champion for Kai Shing and first-runner-up for Hong Yip

Sun Hung Kai Properties Limited (SHKP) has always promoted environmental management, and its property management subsidiaries Kai Shing and Hong Yip incorporate green principles in day-to-day operations with extensive experience and innovative green ideas. They were part of the territory-wide Power Smart Energy Saving Contest again this year and won multiple awards, with Kai Shing being the champion of the 'Biggest Units Saver Award (Property Management)' for a fourth year in a row and Hong Yip finishing in the top three for a fifth year.

SHKP has always been supportive of the Power Smart Energy Saving Contest organized by the environmental group Friends of the Earth. All participating units need to record their power consumption from 1 June 2016 to 31 May 2017, and the one that saves the most energy compared to last year wins. The contest aims to cultivate good power usage habits among companies from different sectors to raise energy efficiency and cut down wastage to lower the impacts of energy consumption on the environment. This year's contest was the 11th and received enthusiastic response, drawing over 2,300 submissions.

80 Kai Shing properties participate and save over 10 million kWh

Kai Shing has made environmental protection part of property management over the years. Frontline staff strictly follow energy-saving measures in operations to reduce electricity use, which is highly appreciated by the organizer. Kai Shing had nearly 80 properties participated in the contest. APM has a special '4C' rule to further save energy and enhance efficiency by Check, Control, Change and Cut. 'Check' is reducing unnecessary consumption from damaged or malfunctioning installations with regular inspections and 'Control' is using facility management and consumption analysis systems to adjust for better energy efficiency. 'Change' is using new technology to improve energy saving and stability of existing facilities, while 'Cut' is reducing consumption according to conditions and actual need. With the active support of its many commercial and residential properties, implementation of the measures produced the highly effective energy savings that made Kai Shing the winner for a fourth year. Over 10 million kWh were saved for this year's competition, earning the top award and demonstrating SHKP's determination in protecting the environment.

Hong Yip's green management

Hong Yip reduces electricity consumption in four ways. It installs sensor-activated lights to reduce idle power use, shortening operating times for things like lifts and removing unnecessary lightings. It also encourages owners' organizations to switch to high efficiency products and notable results were achieved, saving over 10 million kWh every year in the past. It advises property owners on energy-saving methods and encourages buildings to join the Energy Saving Charter on Indoor Temperature and the Environmental Protection Bureau's Charter on External Lighting to reduce emissions, save energy and protect the environment. The concerted efforts of staff, owners and residents won Hong Yip second place in the 'Biggest Units Saver Award (Property Management)' for saving more than eight million units of electricity in the contest. Hong Yip winning for a fifth year shows its outstanding achievement in energy conservation.

SHKP has always supported environmental protection, saved energy and reduced wastage in the building homes with heart spirit. It uses the extensive management portfolio under Kai Shing and Hong Yip to spread a green message in estates and malls, and promotes a quality green home to the public by organizing a variety of environmental protection activities. In the future, SHKP will continue following green management in its properties and cultivating environmental awareness in the community.
