Suncorp : $5,000 up for grabs to help rural students

Suncorp has partnered with the Royal National Agricultural and Industrial Association (RNA) to offer rural students the opportunity to secure a $5,000 bursary to assist with their studies.

Suncorp Head of Business Customers John Debenham said the 2016 Ekka Suncorp Bursary is now open to all existing Queensland University or TAFE students from rural or remote areas, who are currently living away from home.

"Suncorp is proud of its history and connections with its customers and communities throughout rural and regional Queensland and remains committed to supporting their growth and development," Mr Debenham said.

"We understand that many rural and remote students have to leave their homes to further their education and we're proud to be able to assist in meeting some of these costs.

"The Ekka unites Queensland's country and city and we're thrilled to offer the 2016 Ekka Suncorp Bursary."

RNA Chief Executive Brendan Christou said the bursary importantly recognised the difficulties many students from rural and remote areas face.

"Many parts of Queensland remain in the grip of one of the worst droughts on record, with farming families and local communities severely affected," Mr Christou said.

"This bursary will provide much needed financial relief for the student and their family."

For a chance to secure the bursary, students must prepare a short written application detailing how the money would assist in achieving their educational goals.

The winner will be announced at the President's Reception at the Ekka on Tuesday, 9 August 2016.
