Supergroup : Your summer festival guide 2017

The season for music festivals is officially here. But with it comes the tough choice of which music event to actually nab tickets for, before you find yourself hanging out at the local pub watching Glastonbury on the telly.

We've rounded up the top festivals to attend this year, featuring who's playing, the general vibe and more importantly what to wear - to ensure you nail this summer's hottest trends while you're there.

What to wear to a festival

General music festivals wear includes, for the ladies:

• Waterproof shoes or boots - wellington boots are a popular choice.
• Denim shorts - ripped and frayed denim is still in, opt for a pair of comfy jean shorts.
• Cropped t-shirt - a cropped tee always looks good.
• Lightweight jackets - British evenings always get cool, so take along an embroidered denim or a leather jacket.
• Sunglasses - protect your eyes and hide how tired you really are from dancing all night.
• Bum bag - not just for your Dad on that Spanish holiday in the 90s, this will keep your phone, cards, keys and lipstick safe and always on hand.

And for the gents:

• Waterproof shoes or boots - damp socks are not ideal.
• Chino or cargo shorts - featuring plenty of pockets for valuables.
• Band t-shirt - be the ultimate fanboy and pack one or two of your fave band t-shirts.
• Hoodie - for when the evening turns chilly.
• Sunglasses - take a sneaky nap before the next set with these.

What to take to a festival

• Tent - cut costs and buy one with your mate.
• Sleeping bag - stay snug.
• Noise cancelling ear plugs - well, you're going to need sleep at some point.
• Snacks and alcohol - for obvious reasons.
• Mobile charging pack - stay online and keep your phone charged up.
• Several carrier bags - for dirty clothes, dirty shoes, your rubbish, to sit on if the ground is wet, wear as a hat…
• Waterproof bag - a zip lock will do but they're great for those valuables you want to keep dry.
• Extra socks - just in case your waterproof shoes don't hold out.
• Sun cream - even with cloud cover you can still burn.
• Lots and lots of baby wipes - for a quick wash after a day/night of dancing, to remove mud and when you have to use the porta-loo. Good luck with that.

Where are the biggest artists playing?

Ed Sheeran - Everyone's fave chart topping Brit is headlining at Glastonbury.

Craig David - The Daddy of garage is back and this year he's headlining Sundown and performing at V Festival.

Jason Derulo - That guy who likes singing his own name is making an appearance at V Fest this year.

Busted - The boys have returned from the year 3000 and are rocking out at V Fest.

Katy Perry - Back with a bang and playing at Glastonbury.

Clean Bandit - The hottest collaborative dance artists of late will be playing at V Festival.

While we can't predict the weather for 2017, we can give you an idea of what recent years have witnessed for three of the biggest festivals:

Isle of Wight

One of the biggest, early festivals of the year, the Isle of Wight features classic bands and up and comers and when it comes to weather it's usually kind.

2016: Sunny and cloudy with some light showers and temperatures of up to 23°C.

2015: Sunnies and wellies were needed with light showers and sunshine occurring.

2014: Pretty balmy, with plenty of sunshine.

Not too shabby on the island.

Glastonbury

Taking place in June, the weather at Glastonbury has seen some extremes, so it's safe to say you're going to need an umbrella at some point.

2016: The festival was a 'mud pit' after heavy rain and a flash flood. Perfect excuse for some wrestling.

2015: The tail end of Storm Bill soaked revellers but in the end it stayed relatively dry.

2014: Heavy thunderstorms caused temporary shut downs at the festival.

So, yeah, pretty wet.

Those who rock don't fear the rain, right?

2016: Light rain turned to heavy rain in this year - particularly on the Sunday.

2015: Rain and humidity.

2014: A bit damp but the sun did come out to play.

Hmm, bit of a washout.
