SCA strives to be a dedicated partner in the local communities in which we operate. The sponsorship of Matmissionen should be viewed in the light of SCA's effort to prioritize initiatives that has a clear link to SCA's values, expertise, operations and geographic presence.

Food Mission is the result of collaboration between the non-profit organization, Stadsmissionen (Stockholm City Mission) that owns and operates the store, and Swedish food retail and wholesale company Axfood, which provides food and funding.

It is co-financed by some 10 organizations, including SCA. The store will sell surplus food - more than 200 tons in 2016 - that is dated close to or just after the 'best-before' date - and other essential products.

'The social supermarket is a place where everyone contributes. Axfood and the sponsors contribute with money, products, locations, and work opportunities - 20 unemployed people will get the opportunity to work there in 2016. Anyone can shop at Food Mission, but economically vulnerable individuals and families can become members and thereby pay one-third of the regular store price,' says Anna Dittmer, Sales Support for Axfood at SCA in Gothenburg.

'We have been donating products to Stadmissionen for a long time, but this initiative is taking the collaboration one step further, and is a really great way of helping people that are economically vulnerable and the environment at the same time, since it will help reducing food waste,' says Anna.
