December 02, 2011 • Bronze in sustainability/CSR report category
• Evidence of constant development of activities
• Sustainability an integral part of the corporate strategy

Symrise received the bronze Econ Award for its Perspectives 2010 sustainability report. The awards ceremony took place in November 2011 in the historic "Meistersaal" in the heart of Berlin. The publication presents the focus of the sustainability strategy, the measures resulting from it, and highlights from the 2010 reporting year.

The concept of sustainability affects all areas of social life. Symrise too combines environmental, social, and economic aspects in its corporate strategy. This approach is reflected in its current Perspectives 2010 report. It clearly shows how strongly sustainable business is anchored in its everyday operations. Because of this, the publication received the bronze Econ Award in November 2011. The Econ Awards are considered the most renowned prize in corporate communications and are conferred by the Econ Verlag in Berlin and the Handelsblatt journal.

In granting the award, the jury stated: "The remarkable report from Symrise AG contains fascinating stories that really grab the readers' attention. Just by viewing the table of contents, it was evident that this report was clearly structured and well planned. It clearly shows how Symrise met the various criteria for professional CSR reporting outlined in the Global Reporting Initiative and what strategy Symrise is pursuing." The jury holds to strict criteria in making its selections. Of the 107 publications submitted, 28 received an award. In the category sustainability/CSR reports, there were ten candidates for the jury to choose from. Only three would go home with an award.

"We are very pleased to have received the bronze Econ Award for our sustainability report. Our Perspectives 2010 report demonstrates our work to constantly develop our activities," explains CEO Dr. Heinz-Jürgen Bertram. "Sustainability is much more than just a trend - it has become the basis of successful business and an integral part  of our corporate strategy." The publication reported, for example, on the responsible procurement and production of vanilla on site in Madagascar. Together with the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ), Symrise is committed to improving the living conditions of the local vanilla farmers.
