Boehringer Ingelheim selects SYSTRAN's solutions to secure real-time translations and enhance intra-enterprise collaboration

Paris, France, September 4, 2014 - SYSTRAN, today announced that the pharmaceutical company Boehringer Ingelheim has partnered with SYSTRAN to provide its worldwide collaborators with user-friendly translation tools in order to facilitate multilingual communication.

Boehringer Ingelheim is a research-driven company dedicated to researching and developing, manufacturing and marketing pharmaceuticals that improve health and quality of life. With 47,400 employees working in 142 affiliated companies worldwide, Boehringer Ingelheim is a global group of companies embracing many cultures and diverse societies.

Given the multinational environment of the group, making employees collaborate more effectively and securely between operations is a big challenge. In particular, collaborators need to translate local documents into the official corporate language (English) and so the "translation tool project" was launched. Information sharing often requires real-time translation of documents such as emails, letters, contracts and presentations coming from various departments. Hence, the project allowed them to share and capitalise all knowledge globally within the group.

To ensure information security, Boehringer Ingelheim wanted to install a machine translation software solution on its own infrastructure and deploy it on the global intranet. They were looking for a scalable and customised solution that offered a high level of availability and also wanted to choose a partner with a proven track record of supporting large organisations.

With a view to ensuring the project success, SYSTRAN proposed SYSTRAN Enterprise Server, a centralised on premise translation server, along with a complete range of high-performance tools for effective management of translation projects. Through a web-based interface, users can instantly translate texts, emails, Web pages, RSS feeds, and documents in a wide variety of file formats, without breach of confidentiality. Desktop users also benefit from SYSTRAN Toolbar plugins for Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), as well as for the Internet Explorer and Firefox web browsers. With these plugins, anyone in the organisation, can perform translations while preserving the original document layout. Dictionary lookup functions are also directly available from these applications. And finally, SYSTRAN provides linguistic customisations to integrate Boehringer Ingelheim terminology and improve the translation quality specific to the life science industry.

"Being selected as a trusted supplier by Boehringer Ingelheim rewards our significant Research & Development efforts" said Gilles Montier, Sales Director of SYSTRAN. "We shall make every effort to help them turn the Machine Translation system into a corporate-wide strategic asset".
