The center was aimed to consolidate Chinese and Australian TCM resources and promote the growth of TCM in Australia by building a showcase for TCM in the country and conducting studies on how to combine TCM with conventional medicine.

At the ceremony were Mr. Li Huaxin, consul general of China in Sydney, Mr. Andrew Stoner, deputy premier of N.S.W., Mr. He Fuxiang, counselor for science and technology, Mr. Philip Ruddock, a member of the House of Representatives, Dr. Yan Xijun, chairman of Tasly Holding Group, Dr. Bill Dai, CEO of Tasly Pharmaceutical International, Mr. Chen Xinghui, president of Healthpac, 100-odd guests from all walks of life in Australia and journalists from more than 20 media, including People.cn.

This medical center project, which is co-funded by Chinese and Australian enterprises and co-supported by the Chinese and Australian governments, is the latest progress in the past 3 years as of the execution of the MOU on a high-level medical center of integrative medicine between the parties in August 2011. It is intended to build a platform for medical services on the basis of integrative medicine and for the trade of services of integrative medicine and to find a new approach to the integration of conventional medicine and TCM.

Mr. Li Huaxin, consul general of China in Sydney, later expressed in his speech warm congratulations on the successful cooperation between Tasly and Healthpac. The consul general, who thought that TCM was a precious part of Chinese culture and civilization, said that the signing of the agreement not only marked a significant moment in the history of both companies but indicated a big step towards the collaboration between N.S.W. and China in Traditional Chinese Medicine.

Deputy Premier Andrew Stoner and state parliament member Philip Ruddock also spoke at the ceremony, offering congratulations on the execution of the collaborative agreement on behalf of the government of N.S.W. and expressed the hope that introduction of TCM would bring new opportunities for the innovation and progress in Australia's medical service.

Mr. Chen Xinghui, president of Healthpac, remarked that Tasly set an example for all TCM enterprises with its 20-year drastic growth. Cooperation with such an industry leader would brought fresh impetus and opportunities to the growth of Healthpac and even the entire TCM industry, said the president, adding that the powerful cooperation as a result of efforts over 3 years would produce a new way for TCM to be spread all over the world.

Chairman Yan later said that the cooperation with Healthpac was an innovative action aimed to create new opportunities within the current framework of medical service. According to him, the center would operate as three platforms. The first would be medical service platform, whereby the advantages of conventional medicine and TCM would be consolidated to find a new way for development outside hospitals and community health centers; the second would be trade platform, whereby quality products of Tasly would be introduced into Australia's medical service system and gradually accepted and recognized by the majority of Australians; the third would be herb cultivation platform, whereby herb plantations would be built for Chinese herbs with high added values to maximize Australia's pollution-free environment and meet the Chinese government's policy requirements and market needs. The chairman also asserted that the two parties would pioneer in TCM globalization, integration of TCM and conventional medicine and play positive roles in TCM being accepted in the west.
