~ Poonam, Swarnalata and Sandeep Toliya successfully reached the summit of Mt. Everest ~

Three climbers supported by Tata Steel & TSAF successfully climbed Mt Everest on May 21, 2018 and have since returned to Jamshedpur. The Tata Steel family congratulates them on their achievement.

The details of the three climbers are as follows :

a) Poonam, 21 years old, has done Basic and Advance mountaineering courses and trekked to Everest Base Camp in April 2017. She hails from Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand. She has been working with TSAF as camp in charge. TSAF has been organising courses in Uttarkashi for past ~30 years.

b) Swarnalata Dalai, 20 years old, is from the state of Odisha. She had trekked to Everest Base camp, climbed Mt. Rudugaira and undergone various high-altitude treks in Himalayas. She is the first girl from Odisha to be sponsored by Tata Steel for Everest Expedition.

c) Sandeep Toliya has been working with TSAF for more than 10 years as Sr. Instructor. He has done Basic and Advance mountaineering courses, Method of instruction, Outdoor Educator Semester at National Outdoor Leadership Course, USA, trip leader course at NOLS, Ranikhet. He has climbed multiple peaks in Himalayas that include Mt Bhagirathi 2, Mt Rudugaira, Mt Kanamo, Stok Kangri, Karakoram Pass and trekked to Everest base camp. He is one of the instructors in TSAF's outdoor leadership programmes for corporates and B-schools.

Speaking at a felicitation ceremony held for them today, the Chief Guest, Mr.Mukul Choudhari, Chief Sports Excellence Centre, Tata Steel , praised the efforts of the 3 climbers and congratulated them on this tremendous achievement

Narrating her experience, Poonam said that the techniques they had learnt during training helped her in the journey. She saluted her mentor Ms.Bachendri Pal on making it possible for her to achieve this feat.

Mr.Sandeep Toliya thanked Tata Steel for fulfilling his dream of climbing Mount Everest. He praised the tremendous back up support provided by TSAF in this Mission.

Swarnalata recalled the moments spent at the Summit where it was a pleasure to see mountains below making it truly the highest point on earth.

The climbers faced challenges of high altitude - very low oxygen, extreme cold conditions, high winds and steep terrain. They started the journey on 27th Mar' 18 from Delhi. Ms Bachendri Pal, Chief, Adventure Programmes, Tata Steel, TSAF accompanied the climbers till the base camp.

30th Mar - 14th Apr Trek till base camp (17500 ft) - Crossed Namche Bazar, Tangboche, Lobuche, Gorakshep on the way

15th Apr - 22nd Apr - Acclimatization and climb to Lobuche East (6119)

22nd Apr - 10th May - Rotations till camp - 3

16th May - 22nd May - Summit Push
