Tata Steel : awards Jyoti Fellowship 187 students of West Bokaro

The West Bokaro Division of Tata Steel awarded Jyoti Fellowship for the year 2016-17 to a total of 187 meritorious students of West Bokaro area today. The award ceremony was held at Tata Steel Auditorium.

The students were felicitated by Ms Ruchi Narendran who graced the occasion as Chief Guest along with Ms Mita Singhal, Ms Ranjana Singh, Ms Urmila Ekka, Head, Tata Cultural Society, Mr Sanjay Kumar Singh, GM, West Bokaro Division and Mr Mohan Mahato, President, Rastriya Colliery Mazdoor Sangh (RCMS).

Addressing the students on the occasion, Ms Narendran said: 'Students are the future of the nation who will play an important role in the development of their family, community and the nation. When you dream for the stars and work hard, you can achieve anything'

In his address, Mr Singh said: 'With this initiative, we have sowed the seed for a bright future of these students and now it is their duty to transform this seed into a fruitful tree which is possible only though dedication and hard labour'.

Jyoti Fellowship provides financial assistance for higher education to meritorious but economically marginalised Schedule Caste and Schedule Tribe students studying in class VII to class XII. The aim is to enable them accomplish their educational and career aspirations.

Along with cash awards, the students were also provided with convertible yellow bags to carry books as well as use it as a small desk along with solar lamp and tablets to 6 toppers. The total amount disbursed under Jyoti Fellowship today is Rs 10.09 lakhs. Last year, 123 students from West Bokaro Division were awarded fellowships amounting to Rs 6.73 lakhs.

Among others present on the occasion were Mr Sanak Ghosh, Chief Quarry AB & E; Mr Anand Kumar, Chief, Special Projects; Mr B V Sudhir, Chief, CB; Mr Kajal Hota, Chief, P&EM along with other senior officials of Tata Steel and Tata Steel Rural Development Society and PRI members from the peripheral villages.

While the event was coordinated by Mr Keshav Ranjan, Unit Head, TSRDS, the vote of thanks was given by Mr Mohan Mahto, President, RCMS.
