A program of cooperation in trade, economic, cultural and humanitarian fields between Turkmenistan and the Republic of Tatarstan (Russian Federation) was signed in Kazan for 2012-2014. The document was signed by Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, President of Turkmenistan, and Rustam Minnikhanov, President of the Republic of Tatarstan.

The document was signed in Kazan Kremlin during an expanded format meeting with participation of the Turkmenistan official delegation members accompanying Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, Ildar Khalikov, Prime Minister of the Republic of Tatarstan, Farid Mukhametshin, Chairman of the RT State Council, Ministers of the Republic of Tatarstan, Shafagat Takhautdinov, General Director of OAO TATNEFT, Sergey Kogogin General Director of OAO "KAMAZ" and others.

During the event, President of Turkmenistan noted that oil and gas production, petrochemicals, engineering, processing industries, as well as high technology manufacturing and experimental studies are today's strategic areas for Turkmenistan. Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov emphasized the importance of long-term partnership with companies such as OAO TATNEFT, OAO KAMAZ and OAO Kazan Helicopter Plant for the economy of their Republic. According to the President of Turkmenistan the cooperation with OAO TATNEFT increased the level of oil recovery, and the oil company was the first to start commercial crude oil production in Turkmenistan.

In addition, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov expressed the willingness to cooperate with OAO KMPO, OAO Nizhnekamskshina and other enterprises of Tatarstan.

With regard to cooperation in the field of education and science Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said that there were 700 students from Turkmenistan studying in the universities of Tatarstan. They are taught at Kazan State Technological University, Kama Institute of Physical Culture and Sports, Almetyevsk State Petroleum Institute, Kama State Academy of Engineering and Economics. "I am convinced that all the students will make a worthy contribution to the economy of Turkmenistan in future", Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said.
