The Tatarstan's XXIst Oil/Gas and Petrochemicals Forum started in Kazan on September 3, 2014 at the premises of the "Kazan Fair" exhibition.
Its opening was attended by Rustam Minnikhanov, President of Tatarstan, Kirill Molodtzov, Deputy Energy Minister, Svetlana Radionova, Deputy Head of the Rostechnadzor, Baymurad Khodjamukhammedov, Deputy Prime Minister of Turkmenistan and Gennady Schmal, President of the Union of Oil and Gas Producers of Russia.
The forum's activities include specialized exhibitions "Oil and Gas. Petrochemicals", "Environmental Technologies and Equipment of the XXIst Century", "Plastic & Rubber" and "Geo-Kazan: Exploration. Surveying. Cartography".
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Rustam Minnikhanov, President of Tatarstan, emphasized the forum's importance for the Republic, where the oil, gas and petrochemical industries have been and still remain among the leading industry branches. He expressed confidence that in the course of the forum events the participants will focus on many interesting projects which will promote further development of the entire industry.
Before the beginning of plenary sessions awards were conferred to a number of participating companies. Specifically, Rustam Minnikhanov handed to  Nail Maganov, General Director of JSC TATNEFT,   Grand Prix Diploma of the contest "Best exhibit, best design or best technical solution" in the nomination "Products with new or improved characteristics" for the engineering development and implementation of the technology to reduce water in-flow in carbonate reservoirs with application of swellable elastomers.
The total number of the companies exhibiting at the forum amounts to 216, while the expected number of participants from 14 countries amounts to more than a thousand delegates. The main theme of the event will be the problem of extracting hard-to-recover crude oil reserves.
