The technology of reducing water in-flow in carbonate reservoirs with application of swellable elastomers developed by TatNIPIneft experts was granted a Grand Prix Diploma for "Best exhibit,   best design or best technical solution" of the XXIst Tatarstan Oil and Gas and Petrochemicals Forum.
The prestigious award was obtained in the framework of the specialized exhibition "Oil and Gas. Petrochemicals" in the nomination "Products with New or Improved Characteristics".
The technology is based on blocking water flow paths through application of elastomer powder. Unlike the commonly used water-swellable polymer this polymer swelling in water is limited, thereby the plugging capacity maintains for a longer time. This allows multiple increasing the duration effect of the workover operations.
The elastomer powder is injected in a viscous solution to hold it in suspension. The most promising area of this technology application   is   carbonate porous-fractured reservoirs, including reservoirs of the Romashkinskoye oil field.
The criterion of the technology application success is the water cut reduction by at least 30%. The effect duration is at least one year and the additional oil production amounts to not less than 450 tons/well per year.
