Sabrina is building a career in construction

Date: Wednesday 20 May 2015

When Sabrina Andrew decided to set herself a fresh challenge and embark on a brand new career, she never imagined she'd wind up working for one of the largest housebuilders in the UK.

Having worked in the beauty industry for a number of years, Sabrina (24) was keen to try her hand at something new and was particularly interested in learning about sales.

But with very little experience and no relevant qualifications, Sabrina was unsure if it would even be possible to take such a change of direction - that is, until she discovered our trainee management programme.

Sabrina, who currently lives in High Wycombe, explains: "I had worked in the beauty industry for a few years and I just fancied a new challenge. I'd already looked at the Taylor Wimpey management scheme and I thought it seemed really interesting.

"I've had family members work for Taylor Wimpey so I know it is a good company to work for so I decided to wait until a trainee management position for sales came up."

When the opportunity did arise, Sabrina grabbed it with both hands and applied straight away - and much to her delight, she secured a place on the two-year scheme and has been working for our team in Oxfordshire for the past nine months.

"I just love it," says Sabrina. "It is a completely new challenge for me which is exactly what I wanted. It's been a challenge having to pick up a whole new process and learn all about housebuilding and the legal side of things, but I really enjoy it."

In her nine months as a management trainee, Sabrina has already experienced a wide variety of roles within our company - from shadowing Sales Executives and working on-site with Site Managers to spending time in different departments such as customer services, marketing and technical.

"There is so much more to learn which is why I love it," says Sabrina. "There are so many opportunities to try something new at Taylor Wimpey and the company is really supportive of that."

Sabrina is also hoping to work with the local community in the Oxfordshire village of Hook Norton, where we are currently building new homes at our Bourne View development.

Sabrina explains: "I lived in Hook Norton for 10 years when I was younger and I went to school there.

"Now that I'm working for Taylor Wimpey I really want to go back and visit the primary school to get them involved with what we do and show them how we can give back to the community."

Bourne View currently offers a superb selection of three and four-bedroom houses.
