Crookham scouts receive a helping hand from Taylor Wimpey!

A scout group from Church Crookham, Hampshire, was awarded £250 from our South Thames business unit as part of its donation box scheme.

The winning recipients, 1st Crookham Scout Group, were among three local causes chosen by the team for its monthly charity initiative.

Visitors to the Oaklands at Crookham Park development in Church Crookham were asked to vote for their favourite initiative to receive a £250 donation.

The funding awarded has managed to kick start the scout group's fundraising drive, which seeks to raise up to £350,000 for its headquarters in Basingbourne Woods to be refurbished.

Mark Medler, Group Scout Leader at 1st Crookham Scout Group, says: 'We'd like to say a big thank you to the local people who voted for us and to Taylor Wimpey for this fantastic donation.

'It's wonderful to know that so many people care about the scout group and that we are recognised in the community. Our whole ethos is to empower young people to make a difference within their local community by contributing positively to society as a whole.

'We put a lot of effort into fostering links with the local area and working alongside other similar groups like Guides to help the community, as well as organisations such as Friends of Basingbourne Wood, which keeps the beautiful woodlands preserved.

'The timing of the prize is perfect as we are kicking off our long term fundraising project to refurbish our main base in Basingbourne Woods. Our headquarters opened there in 1965 and is now looking dilapidated.

'We need about £350,000 to rebuild the facilities completely. Ideally, if we manage to raise the full amount we would love to knock it down and completely start again with a brand new facility to support local scouting for the next 50 or more years.

'However, with any amount we receive, our main priority is fixing the roof and the electrics to keep the current headquarters going.'
