TEGNA Inc. (NYSE: TGNA) today announced that its stations have received four Gracie Awards, presented by the Alliance for Women in Media Foundation. The Gracie Awards honor outstanding programming by, for and about women and individual achievement in television, radio and interactive media.

TEGNA’s Gracie Award-winning stations, projects and people include:

Gracie Awards for Best Documentary and for Individual Achievement: “Selling Girls,” a digital-first, 6-part series investigating sex trafficking of underage girls in the U.S., was produced by a team of investigative journalists based in Atlanta and Houston with assistance from the TEGNA Design Tank based in Denver at KUSA. The series ran on TEGNA stations’ websites and on-air, giving each station the chance to offer local coverage on the topic, highlighting the crisis in their own community. Separately, WXIA executive producer Erin Guttierez was also recognized for individual achievement as producer of multiple series and breaking news for “Atticus Investigates.”

Gracie Award for Hard News Feature/Local News: “Raped in the Military,” focusing on three courageous women veterans who shared their experiences of sexual assault while serving in the military. Station manager Michael Valentine worked with WUSA reporter Andrea McCarren and photojournalist and editor John Mogor on this interview-driven story, which inspired other victims to come forward to share their own harrowing experiences.

Gracie Award for Soft News Feature/Local News: WUSA was also recognized for the series “Impact,” a project that exposed the hidden problem of food insecurity in an affluent suburb outside of Washington, DC. WUSA helped address the need by working with the United Way of the National Capital Area and the community to provide students with food for their weekends at home. WUSA anchor/host Lesli Foster, station manager Michael Valentine, executive producers Sarah Gahagan and Ryan Wood, promotions manager Greg Cohen and researcher Eliana Block were honored with the award.
