Launches 4G Broadband Offering in Alor Setar, Kedah

Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) further strengthens its position as Malaysia's Broadband Champion with the launch of its 4G broadband offering, TMgo in Alor Setar, Kedah today. The launch of this latest offering reflects TM's continuous efforts in providing broadband services to the nation across all segments and locations, consistent with the National Broadband Plan to deliver High Speed Broadband (HSBB), Suburban Broadband (SUBB) and Broadband for General Population (BBGP) to all Malaysians.

The TMgo service, which is currently available initially at 17 sites in Kota Setar and Pendang, Kedah, is set to connect the communities in underserved areas of the country with high speed broadband connectivity.

The TM's 4G service was officially launched by YAB Dato' Seri Mukhriz Tun Dr. Mahathir, Menteri Besar of Kedah. Also present were Dato' Mohamed Sharil Mohamed Tarmizi, Chairman of Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), Dato' Sri Dr. Halim Shafie, Chairman of TM and Tan Sri Zamzamzairani Mohd. Isa, Group Chief Executive Officer, TM.

Speaking at the launching ceremony, Tan Sri Zamzamzairani said, "Today marks another milestone as we launch our first 4G service offering to Malaysians, beginning with 17 sites in Kedah with the priority to the underserved areas. This follows the trial of the service that we have conducted end of 2013 in Kedah. The service coverage will definitely be expanded as we build more sites in other states nationwide. This is part of our continuous efforts towards providing better connectivity to all Malaysians regardless of locations hence empowering the communities, enriching their lives and contributing to the nation's development."

"The launch of TMgo is also part of TM's roadmap towards true convergence where providing mobility solutions to customers is a natural progression in line with the industry evolution towards true convergence, not just from a technology or device perspective, but more importantly from a customer experience point of view, in the delivery of end-to-end broadband and data services," added Tan Sri Zamzamzairani.

As part of the product launch, TM also held a video call between the launch venue in Alor Setar and Pendang using TMgo to give the guests a taste of the 4G connection. Pendang is the location where TM is currently organising its Jelajah Hidup Lebih Mudah, an initiative aimed at increasing the awareness amongst the public, particularly the communities in the sub-urban areas, on the unlimited possibilities provided by broadband connectivity. Through the initiative, local communities are given the opportunity to experience the fast speed of broadband and how it can enrich their lives.
