Dato' Sri Dr Halim shared, "We, at TM are indeed incredibly honoured to have our beloved Prime Minister with us here today to spend some quality time with TM employees, not only with us here at Menara TM, but also with those who are based at the state operations around the nation. Even though this is YAB's second visit to Menara TM after previously officiating this TM Convention Centre in June 2012; this time around, it is even more significant as it coincides with the third anniversary of TM's high speed broadband (HSBB) service, UniFi, which was launched as part of the National Broadband Initiative (NBI) towards upgrading the nation's broadband infrastructure and increasing the nation's broadband penetration."
"Since its launch, UniFi has grown leaps and bounds with over 517,000 customers activated, marking an outstanding take up rate of over 37%. We have fulfilled the mandate given under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP), signed with the Government, to deploy HSBB according to the schedule and budget allocated. In fact, we have surpassed the 1.34 million premises passed target set by the end of 2012 by rolling out to 1.377 million premises passed. We are also heartened that the project has received multiple global recognitions, including being recognised as one of the fastest roll-out globally, given its ambitious and wide scope. The project has elevated Malaysia to emerge as the highest in terms of number of high speed broadband subscribers in South East Asia, and even in Asia Pacific. All these could not have been achieved without the undivided support and commitment of our Malaysian Government, and for that, on behalf TM, I would like to thank you, YAB Dato' Sri. Thank you for sharing your vision to make high speed broadband accessible and affordable to all Malaysians. TM is indeed proud to be part of this initiative," said Dato' Sri Dr Halim.
As part of the visit, the Prime Minister was taken for a tour to an exhibition showcasing the HSBB project milestones and its success stories, the role it plays in connecting Malaysians and how it has transformed the lives of Malaysians; in how we connect, communicate and collaborate.
At the same event, TM also showed its unwavering support of the Malaysian armed forces when the Company handed over cash contributions of RM100,000 for Tabung Amanah Perwira Negara and another RM100,000 for Tabung Kebajikan PDRM, for their bravery and upholding Malaysia's sovereignty, particularly in light of the recent intrusion in Sabah. The mock cheques of the contributions were handed over to the Prime Minister by Dato' Sri Dr Halim and Mohd. Jafar Abd. Majid, President of the National Union of Telecommunications Employees (NUTE), TM's union for non-executives, on behalf of TM and all TM employees.
