'Rumah Selamat & Selamat Sampai ke Destinasi' campaign for the upcoming festive season

Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) continues to collaborate with Polis DiRaja Malaysia (PDRM) for community safety and security in conjunction with the upcoming Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration with the launch of the annual safety campaign 'Op Selamat 9/2016' today. This campaign, which marks 19 consecutive years of collaboration between both parties, aimed at increasing public awareness on road safety and home security this Balik Kampung season.

Held at Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Puncak Alam campus, the campaign was launched by Tan Sri Dato' Sri Khalid Abu Bakar, the Inspector General of Police. At the event, Tan Sri Khalid also flagged off the 'Traffic Monitoring Team' and a convoy of motorcyclists and cars to symbolically emphasise the campaign's message. Also present at the launching ceremony were Dato' Sri Noor Rashid Ibrahim, Deputy Inspector General of Police, Tan Sri Zamzamzairani Mohd Isa, Group Chief Executive Officer, TM and other police officers of various ranks.

Speaking at the launching ceremony, Tan Sri Zamzamzairani said, 'As a responsible corporate citizen, TM is committed to playing its role in supporting Government's efforts towards the nation's well-being and once again, we continue our long standing collaboration with PDRM for Op Selamat 9/2016 safety campaign this year. The safety of road users and their homes are the utmost important thing during this festive holiday season. This is why we would like to remind everybody to adopt proper and courteous driving etiquette as well as being alert of any break-in attempts in your neighbouring community. This year also marks 19 consecutive year of our involvement in this campaign, reflecting our unwavering support towards the Government's initiatives to reduce the road mishaps rate and to improve home safety during festive season. This is in line with one of the National Key Results Area (NKRA) which is, reducing crime.'

Op Selamat 9/2016 campaign continues to bring safety messages from the previous years' campaigns where the focus encompass the safety of Malaysian homes while the residents are away for the festive holiday. This 9 edition of the campaign - aptly themed 'Rumah Selamat & Selamat Sampai ke Destinasi' will be running for two (2) weeks beginning from 30 June until 13 July 2016.

For this year's campaign, TM is contributing 50 operation canopies, 50 umbrellas, signages and LED lights for the convenience of police officers on-duty along the roads identified as accident-prone areas.

Throughout Op Selamat 9/2016, traffic on roads are expected to increase by four to five folds as motorists join the balik kampung exodus to get to their destinations from cities and big towns, especially the densely populated Klang Valley. At the same time, they are reminded to take all the necessary steps to prevent their vacated homes from break-ins. Members of the public who are returning to their home town during the Hari Raya break are advised to inform the police to ensure the safety of their homes. PDRM will also be increasing neighborhood patrols in big cities where most homes will be vacant during the holiday season.
