The Company creates various opportunities to reaching out to the Nation through its TM ROVers

Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM), as a responsible corporate citizen, continues its efforts beyond products and services through its corporate responsibility initiatives that serve three pillars - Economic, Environment and Social - to benefit more Malaysians, particularly the underprivileged and needy groups, true to the Company's vision of 'To Make Life and Business Easier for a Better Malaysia'.

Aligning with its Corporate Responsibility theme, 'Reaching Out', TM today held its inaugural TM Reaching Out Day 2016 to give further exposure to its employees on volunteerism in TM and offer various platforms for voluntary works by identified NGO partners.

Speaking at the event, Dato' Mohd Khalis Abdul Rahim, Chief Human Capital Officer, TM said, 'Our business fulfils a fundamental need in society, outlined in our renewed vision - To Make Life and Business Easier for a Better Malaysia - and we ensure we meet this basic need by delivering our services to as many Malaysians as possible to the best of our ability. Beyond carrying out our business functions, however, TM has integrated ourselves into the very fabric of the communities in which we operate by extending a helping hand to the marginalised; creating a vibrant work space for our employees; nurturing a dynamic ICT ecosystem; and playing our part in protecting the environment. We hope to expand the scope by exploring other areas with potential NGO partners that offers voluntary activities for our employees.'

Held at Menara TM Lobby, here in Kuala Lumpur, the TM Reaching Out Day 2016 was filled with activities carrying the volunteerism theme by TM Clubs & Societies and NGO partners, including a forum titled 'Volunteerism: How can I play my role?'. The invited panelists include speakers from Malaysia Nature Society (MNS) and Islamic Relief Malaysia. At the event, Dato' Mohd Khalis also launched TM Radio Amateur Community (TM RAC) and relaunched Kelab Pencinta Alam TM.

TM launched its long standing employee volunteerism group, the TM Reaching Out Volunteers or TM ROVers, in September 2013. TM ROVers is open to all passionate TM employees and comprise members of TM clubs and societies namely Badan Kebajikan Islam Telekom (BAKIT), Persatuan Isteri-isteri dan Anggota Wanita TM (TIARANITA), Kelab TM, Rejimen Semboyan Diraja Pakar Telekom (Semboyan Pakar), TM Bikers, as well as students of Multimedia University (MMU), Multimedia College (MMC) and Yayasan TM, amongst others. In other words, all 28,000 warga TM are naturally TM Rovers and through this TM community of clubs and societies, TM employees nationwide have been directly and indirectly involved in numerous activities such as humanitarian relief missions, community and environmental projects, as well as programmes with the orphanage, elderly and homeless.

Throughout the years, TM ROVers have participated in series of TM Earth Camp, an environmental awareness camp organised with our partner MNS to educate school children about the importance of saving the environment. TM ROVers were also deployed for humanitarian relief missions such as during the East-Coast flood in 2014/2015, Ranau earthquake last year and Sarawak flood early this year. In 2015, BumiKu Camp 2015 - Disaster Preparedness Training with Jabatan Pertahanan Awam Malaysia (JPAM) was held to equip a group of selected TM ROVers nationwide with basic knowledge of disaster preparation. Other than that, TM ROVers were also involved in GLC Disaster Relief Network (GDRN) initiatives with other GLCs, providing assistance during the previous humanitarian relief missions.

Among the NGOs showcasing their voluntary programmes as well as sharing their knowledge and experiences in volunteerism from their perspectives are Mercy Malaysia, MNS, Islamic Relief Malaysia (IRM), National Cancer Society Malaysia (NCSM), National Autism Society of Malaysia (NASOM), Pertiwi Soup Kitchen, Yayasan Salam and All Women's Action Society (AWAM). At the same time, this event is an appropriate platform for the NGOs to garner volunteers' participations and additional fund via donation drive for their activities.
