The active role of PT. Telekomunikasi Indonesia Tbk (Telkom) in improving education in Indonesia has been proven through its support for the success of the National Computer Based Exams (UNBK).

The National Computer Based Exams (UNBK), also known as Computer Based Test (CBT) is a national exam system using the computer as the medium of the test. In its practice, UNBK is different from the Paper Based National (PBT) examination system that most Indonesian are familiar with.

Vice President of Corporate Communication Telkom, Arif Prabowo explained that as state telecommunications company in Indonesia, Telkom is committed to support the success of Ministry of Education and Culture (Kemendikbud) programs.

'One of the concrete implementation is through the provision of telecommunication facilities to the education in Indonesia, especially through the UNBK,' he said.

As described by Arif Prabowo, in supporting the UNBK, Telkom has earned the trust of Kemendikbud to upgrade the Metro Ethernet service and the VPN IP of Kemendikbud, the Protection services of Datin at Kemendikbid, and the Protection of the university internet connection that uses the services of Telkom.

Arif Prabowo said that through his observation until the completion of UNBK, there are no network constraints that resulted in the disruption of the UNBK process. Even though there is a report regarding the disturbance from one of the school participant of the UNBK, however, by a search task from Telkom, it is then revealed that the disturbance is due to the local network server at school.

The implementation of UNBK currently uses the semi-online system, in which the exam is sent from the central online server via a network (synchronization) to a local server (school), then used by the local server (school) offline. Furthermore, the test results sent back from the local server (the school) to a central server online (upload). As for the final step, the result of the exam will be sent back from the local server (school) to the online central server.

The Minister of Education and Culture, Anies Baswedan give an appreciation for those who contribute to the implementation of UNBK. Based on the data from Kemendikbud, the participant of 2016′s UNBK is followed by 921 862 students spread across 4,381 schools / institutions.
