Press release

Telecommunications services operator DNA is updating its fixed broadband network in the Southern Finland region. Utilising the latest technology, the upgrade will bring record-breaking broadband speeds to DNA's cable network customers. Teleste's DOCSIS 3.1-compatible, 1.2 GHz, network products as well as its network services are strongly involved in implementing of the upgrade.

Turku, Finland - 31 May 2016 - Teleste, a leading provider of video and broadband technologies and related services, will supply the latest DOCSIS 3.1 network technology-based network cable network products in addition to its network service expertise to DNA Ltd's network upgrade project in Southern Finland. DNA is Finland's largest cable operator and the leading pay TV provider in both cable and terrestrial networks and it provides telecommunications services to a group of subscribers totalling more than 3.7 million mobile communications and fixed network customers. The upgrade at stake concerns a cable network service region in Southern Finland that embraces nearly 1500 network sites.

Record-breaking Internet connections for cable network households

For consumers, DOCSIS 3.1-based broadband networks mean a revolution in the usability of Internet video and streaming services. When taking full advantage of the DOCSIS 3.1 technology, cable networks will be capable of transferring data even at speeds of 10 Gbit/s downstream and 1 Gbit/s upstream. The transfer capacity achieved is unparalleled (in Finnish) in comparison to the fixed broadband network speeds offered by previous technologies.

In practice, a higher capacity network makes it extremely smooth and reliable to use various Internet video services also in live environments. In addition, it makes it possible for consumers to upload their own content onto the Internet faster than before. High-performance fixed broadband connections are also a prerequisite for the wide-scale utilisation of the Internet of Things.

'We want to offer our clients an excellent customer experience as well as reliable, fast network connections for the increasing use of online services. In fixed broadband networks, DOCSIS 3.1 technology offers the best solution for meeting this objective. In cooperation with Teleste, we have already noted that the technology really does do what it promises,' Kari Ruopsa, Head of Cable Networks at DNA Ltd., relates. 'We are highly satisfied that this upgrade will enable us to bring our cable network customers within the reach of fixed broadband connections that are incomparable in speed and which respond to the requirements of both the current and future information society.'

Teleste's network services will look after the network design and documentation for the upgrade, and Teleste will also take part in field installations. Teleste's DOCSIS 3.1-compatible network products will also be utilised in the project, including AC3010 and AC3210 amplifiers released just this spring. In addition, the products on hand will include those from the ACE and HDO product families as well as passive devices.

'This is the first comprehensive network implementation in Finland where the cable network will be upgraded to take full advantage of the DOCSIS 3.1 technology from headend to home. As a result, the next generation cable networks will take a significant step forward in Finlandas well,' says Matti Nurmi, Director of Teleste Network Services in Finland. 'As a technology vendor, Teleste is in a unique position, since we can also offer highly developed network service expertise to our operator customers. We eagerly look forward to continuing our cooperation with DNA in both of our core expertise areas.'

From 7 to 9 June, Teleste will be presenting its network services as well as its DOCSIS 3.1-compatible network equipment range at the ANGA COM 2016 exhibition in Cologne, Germany. At our stand, E19, you are also welcome to talk with our experts about questions related to HFC networks. You can find more information about our event offering on our ANGA COM 2016 web page.
