Telia Company today announced that it has entered into an agreement to acquire Bonnier Broadcasting. This is in line with the strategy adopted by the Board in 2014 to create a new Telia Company with the Nordics and Baltics as a base, in which TV and content are important parts of the company's offering to its customers.
The acquisition of Bonnier Broadcasting represents new opportunities for Telia Company which thereby will include media in its future business. Through the transaction the company gets the mission to ensure that continued independent journalism is upheld vis-à-vis the owner, board and management.
The new business area will be a separate entity within Telia Company. No changes will take place within the organization when it comes to the responsible publisher role. The comprehensive ethics and compliance framework already in place at Telia Company will be expanded to include editorial independence.
The debate which has been taking place ahead of today's announcement shows that Telia Company has several important roles to play in the Swedish society. It is a role that the company takes most seriously and one that, as we move forward, will continue to be handled responsibly. Telia Company therefore welcomes shareholders and other affected parties within politics and society to take part in constructive dialogue around these issues.
Telia Company's Board is convinced that the acquisition of Bonnier Broadcasting is an important milestone for Telia Company's future development and consequently is value-adding for all shareholders.
