Toronto, ON –TELUS is welcoming 250 new team members in Toronto in 2011 to help meet the growing demand for wireless services and deliver the best customer experience.

By the end of this year, the new recruits will join the 7,800 TELUS team members who already call Toronto and the GTA home.

Over the past few years, TELUS has continued to make significant enhancements to its wireless services and plans to simplify the wireless customer experience and help customers get more value and enjoyment from their services. TELUS has removed unwanted system access and 911 fees, introduced clear choice rate plans, new clear and simple roaming rates, redefined device ownership, created learning centres to help customers enjoy their new smartphone, and more.

“The wireless industry is changing. Devices are a lot more powerful and can do so much more than 10 years ago. Our customers today are looking for us to offer them an enhanced experience in exchange for the investment they are making with us when choosing TELUS as their wireless service provider,” said David Fuller, TELUS Chief Marketing Officer. “These new team members will help support our focus on providing the best customer experience in the industry.”

TELUS has invested $20 billion in technology and operations in Ontario since 2000. In that time, TELUS and its employees have contributed $33 million and volunteered 194,000 hours of service to a variety of charities, organizations and local partnerships in the province.

TELUS is an employer of choice across Canada, offering numerous career options and unique flexible work programs, including:

  • Work Styles and At Home Agent programs. Seventy per cent of team members will have the opportunity to work at home at least part time by 2015. Fourteen hundred customer care agents will work at home full-time by the end of this year, up from 1,000 last year. TELUS’ programs such as Work Styles not only create a better work/life balance, but also decrease commuting and thus contribute to the reduction of greenhouse gases
  • Active support for causes important to team members. TELUS was named the most outstanding philanthropic corporation globally for 2010 by the Association of Fundraising Professionals. Since 2000, TELUS and its team members, retirees and local community boards have contributed $245 million and volunteered 4 million hours to charitable and not-for-profit organizations in its local communities.
