Revelstoke, B.C. - TELUS has invested $875,000 in a new wireless site west of Revelstoke to bring new 4G wireless service to an important stretch of Highway 1 between Kamloops and the Alberta border.

"At TELUS, we know how important wireless services are, and continue to make significant investments in our networks to bring them to our customers. The benefits of wireless service are many and range from economic growth through to improved safety and security," said Steve Jenkins, general manager of Customer Solutions Delivery. "Our investment in Revelstoke gives motorists along this stretch of Highway 1 and area residents and businesses the ability to make wireless calls from wherever they are, expands access to 911 and allows for great broadband service where it may not be possible to build wired Internet access."

This project is a result of the 10-year Connecting British Columbia agreement signed with the Province of B.C. earlier this year. Under the terms of the contract, TELUS will connect more than 1,700 kilometres of highway with wireless service and run fibre optic cable directly to nearly 450 B.C. schools over the next five years.

"This is great news for families, businesses and people traveling along Highway 1 between Kamloops and the Alberta border, including the Revelstoke area," said Labour, Citizens' Services and Open Government Minister Margaret MacDiarmid. "By working together, we're making progress on expanding wireless coverage and providing much-needed new cellular coverage along our highways."

This year alone, TELUS is investing $670 million across British Columbia to further expand and enhance its advanced 4G wireless and wireline networks. This investment builds upon the $24 billion TELUS has invested in its operations and technology in the province over the last 10 years.
