YPFB Andina, a Bolivian oil and gas company, ran TenarisHydril Wedge 533™ Dopeless® connections at the RGD-95 well in the Río Grande field, located in the province of Santa Cruz.

The company decided to switch to Dopeless® technology after witnessing its benefits during field trials. In the RGD-95 well this solution allowed YPFB Andina to prevent problems during well completion, provide a cleaner and safer environment as well as improve the operational performance in the Río Grande field.

The operation was completed without incidents and in less time than expected. YPFB Andina successfully ran 418 joints of 2 3/8" 4.7ppf L80 TenarisHydril Wedge 533™ Dopeless® connections. This was the first time for the operator to run a tubing string with Dopeless® connections in an operation.

Dopeless® technology is a dry multifunctional coating applied in a fully automatic process at Tenaris mills. This solution makes thread compounds obsolete and ensures that the exact amount of lubricant is applied in each premium connection.

"This milestone is the result of the joint work of the two companies. For two years we organized field trials and registered the benefits of the Dopeless® technology to achieve the correct implementation," said Constantino Espinosa, Tenaris Technical Sales.

Felipe Rodríguez, YPFB Andina Drilling Engineer, added that "The Dopeless® technology used in the production tubing of the RGD-95 well proved its advantages by allowing fast and safe maneuvers. Slickline operations were fulfilled without complications because no obstructions caused by dope or lime were registered inside the string."
