Tenaris is closing out its edX series of Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) with its final training session, Introduction to Running Pipe in Oil and Gas Wells, set to launch September 22.

This two-week online learning course will teach participants about the proper preparation and handling of casing and tubing that is run downhole in oil and gas wells. To date, the course has about 3,150 registrants from 119 countries.

"TenarisUniversity believes in the highest standards of education both inside the company and for our stakeholders," said Rolando Lange, director of Tenaris's corporate university. "This course was initially thought for our customers only, but we decided to share it with the whole world through edX. We want to encourage all life-long learners to keep on studying and collaborating in all topics of interest, and in particular in the ones related to the energy industry."

Tenaris wrapped up its third MOOC, Intro to Oil Country Tubular Goods (OCTG) earlier this month, in which participants learned the basics of drilling products, how they are selected and why. The three-week course attracted approximately 4,350 participants from 130 countries and generated a completion rate of 28 percent.

These online classes, along with Tenaris's first two MOOCs - Computer Numerical Control and Intro to Steel - were the result of a partnership with the non-profit edX, an online education organization founded in partnership by members of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Harvard University. Tenaris designed the MOOC courses with the mission of sharing knowledge about its business with employees and the community, and encouraging learning and training via the MOOC methodology.
