October 11, 2016.Tenaris received the Steelie award from the World Steel Association (worldsteel) for 'Excellence in education and training' at the annual worldsteel convention in Dubai, UAE, October 10.

Tenaris Chairman & CEO Paolo Rocca attended the event and accepted the award which recognized Tenaris for its Development Maintenance Program - a three-year training program created as part of a long-term succession plan for maintenance engineers.

Twelve young professionals at Tenaris, from five different countries, participated in the Development Maintenance Program which was created by TenarisUniversity, the company's corporate learning division. The program consisted of three stages focused on high-level classroom and on-the-job training, including international stints at Tenaris mills in Argentina, Mexico and Italy. The maintenance-focused program also included a training component with the University of Manchester, granting participants the opportunity to earn a post-graduate diploma.

'When you bridge a global network of individuals through intensive training and hands-on projects, you open up the communication,' said Rolando Lange, TenarisUniversity Director. 'You encourage the practice of sharing knowledge and sharing diverse methodologies which are a source for creating solutions.'

Participants underwent about 1,120 training hours each, with courses honing in on the areas of maintenance, cranes, refractories, hydraulics, drives, and electrical motors. The class contributed with the deployment of more than 80 projects related to new investments and cost-savings initiatives, work standardization among others.

This is the third win for Tenaris in the category of education and training in the past four years. Tenaris received a nomination last year for its Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) Introduction to Steel; in 2014, it won the development of online learning courses with The University of Sheffield and edX; and in 2013, it won for its Technical Training Program.
