Tenet Healthcare Corporation (NYSE: THC) named Garry L. Gause as chief executive officer of its Southern Region. In this role, Gause will lead the overall direction, strategy and operations for the region’s 10 geographically dispersed acute care hospitals, one critical access hospital, 34 outpatient centers and related healthcare services.

“Garry is an accomplished healthcare executive who has demonstrated expertise and success in hospital and multi-facility operations management,” said Britt T. Reynolds, president of hospital operations at Tenet. “I am confident Garry will effectively lead the Southern Region in providing high quality care to the communities we serve.”

Gause has been with Tenet for 16 years and most recently served as the chief executive officer of the Birmingham Market and as chief executive officer of Brookwood Medical Center in Birmingham, Ala. Prior to joining Tenet, Gause served as chief executive officer at hospitals in Birmingham, Decatur and Cullman, Ala., as well as in Olympia, Wash.

Tenet’s Southern Region includes hospitals and other operations in Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina and South Carolina. These include Atlanta Medical Center in Atlanta, Ga.; Brookwood Medical Center; Central Carolina Hospital in Sanford, N.C.; Coastal Carolina Hospital in Hardeeville, S.C.; East Cooper Medical Center in Mount Pleasant, S.C.; Frye Regional Medical Center in Hickory, N.C.; Hilton Head Hospital in Hilton Head, S.C.; North Fulton Medical Center in Roswell, Ga.; Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill, S.C.; Spalding Regional Hospital in Griffin, Ga.; and Sylvan Grove Hospital in Jackson, Ga.

Gause's appointment is effective immediately. A national search, internally and externally, has been initiated for successors to Gause for CEO of the Birmingham Market and for CEO of Brookwood Medical Center.
