Demand in the first two months of 2017 has increased by 1% compared to the same period of 2016 (+1.8% based on the same number of days)

Rome, 20 March 2017 - In February 2017, according to data collected by Terna, the company that manages the national electricity grid, electricity demand in Italy was 24.9 billion kWh. The result, showing a 3% decrease compared to February 2016, constitutes a slight increase taking into account the number of days, due to the fact that last year was a leap year.
At the territorial level, the February 2017 trend was negative across the country: -2.8% in the North, -3.6% in Central Italy and -3.1% in the South.
The short-term seasonally adjusted value for February 2017 showed a decrease in electricity demand compared to the previous month (-1.7%). This represents a stable trend.
In February 2017, the electricity demand was met 87.2% with national production and the remaining part (12.8%) with the balance of electricity exchanged with foreign countries. In detail, net national production (21.9 billion kWh) grew by +3.1% compared to February 2016. Thermal production increased (+11.2%), as did solar production (+3.3%) while hydroelectric (-13.9%), wind (-30.2%) and geothermal (-4.4%) production dropped.
