Volunteers, thank you!

Volunteers from the British Red Cross

Last week we announced that our recent Neighbourhood Food Collection, which took place in all of our UK stores from 17-29 November, helped provide enough food for 4.7 million meals for Tesco's food charity partners, FareShare and the Trussell Trust.

Over 19,000 people across the country volunteered to support in their local store over the final three days of the collection and we would like to extend a huge thank you to everyone who generously donated their time. In total, this amounted to over 40,000 hours of voluntary work!  The time you invested helped to ensure that thousands of people up and down the country will not go hungry this winter.

In addition to many individual members of the public supporting FareShare and the Trussell Trust, volunteers came from a wide range of organisations such as churches and faith groups, schools, Scout and Guide groups, Rotary and Lions Clubs, and charities like the British Red Cross.

There were also a number of volunteers from businesses, including Elanco, Sodexo, Aspen, Workspace, Produce World, Kellogg's, Lindt, Danone, Greencore, Thanet Earth and the Food and Drink Federation. BT volunteers numbered 401 alone!

Thank you once again to all the volunteers who made our Neighbourhood Food Collection possible. We hope that you continue to help us build stronger communities and might consider supporting our next collection in store in 2015.

Thank you and Merry Christmas!
